The Earth-HK Annual Workshop 2026, together with the 3rd Field Survey Planning Meeting for Ocean and Land Studies in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), was successfully held on July 5–6, 2026 at SUSTech, Shenzhen.
The workshop brought together over 100 experts from mainland and Greater Bay Area(GBA) to review progress and coordinate future work under the Areas of Excellence (AoE) project. Field survey activities in Shenzhen Bay, the GBA, the Pearl River Estuary, and adjacent shelf waters have significantly strengthened our integrated understanding of regional oceanic, terrestrial, and atmospheric processes.
Presentations covered key scientific advances and emerging priorities, including carbon and nutrient footprints, AI-enabled simulations, and immersive visualization approaches. The workshop fostered productive knowledge exchange and strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration across research domains.
We were honored to welcome distinguished invited guests, including Prof. Defiang Chen (Tsinghua University), Prof. Chunzhai Wang (SCSIO, CAS), Prof. Wenju Cai (Laoshan Laboratory), Prof. Zhiyu Liu (Xiamen University), Prof. Jingping Xu(SUSTech), Prof. Yan Zheng (SUSTech), Prof. Hui Su (HKUST), Prof. Yeqiang Shu (SCSIO, CAS) and Prof. Tingting Zu (SCSIO, CAS). Their valuable insights and constructive feedback provided important guidance for the continued advancement of the project.
The workshop concluded with the 3rd Field Survey Planning Meeting, where participants reviewed previous campaign outcomes and coordinated detailed plans for the upcoming summer surveys, further strengthening alignment between observational and modeling efforts.
The Project Office would like to express gratitude to our co-host, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech)and Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau (CORE) for hosting the workshop.
