On 2 June 2026, Project Coordinator, Prof. Jianping Gan’s research team has joined HKUST Unicorn Day 2026, one of Hong Kong's flagship innovation and entrepreneurship events at the Shaw Auditorium, HKUST Clear Water Bay Campus. Themed "From Ideas to Miracles — 35 Years of Impact and Beyond," the event marked HKUST's 35th anniversary, bringing over 1,800 participants, including students, faculty, and alumni, as well as international and local government representatives, industry partners, investors, innovation and technology entrepreneurs, and researchers.
The team presented the latest version of WavyOcean v3.0, which won a Gold Medal at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in March 2026. Led by Professor Jianping GAN, , the upgraded platform further enhances real-time 3D rendering and immersive visualization for ocean and Earth systems.
During the event, we presented WavyOcean v3.0 to distinguished guests, including Prof. Dong SUN, JP, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government; Prof. Nancy IP, SBS, BBS, MH, JP, President of HKUST; and Hon. Elizabeth Quat, SBS, JP, Member of the Legislative Council, who were impressed by the platform's innovative capabilities.
The team also took part in the Future Unicorns: Deeptech Investment Pitch session, where Dr. CHENG Weicong, Post-doctoral Fellow of Earth-HK Project(AoE/P-601/23-N) pitched on behalf of Professor Gan, highlighting WavyOcean v3.0's prospects in the blue economy and environmental governance.
